MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) - Cardinal Christoph Schonborn of Vienna will give the Belarusian Greek Catholics a piece of the archiepiscopal vestments of Josaphat Kuntsevych during the celebrations in Budslav, BelTA learned from the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus.
Christoph Schonborn was appointed papal special envoy for the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Minsk-Mogilev Diocese, which will be held in the national sanctuary in Budslav on 1-2 July.
In Budslav, Cardinal Christoph Schonborn along with Metropolitan of Minsk-Mogilev Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz will take part in a night procession with candles and in a prayer on 2 July.
“The visit of Cardinal Christoph Schonborn to Belarus is a landmark event for the Roman Catholic Church. He will also meet with representatives of the Belarusian Orthodox Church and will give a gift to a small Greek-Catholic Church in Belarus,” reads the statement on the website of the Archdiocese of Vienna.
A piece of the archiepiscopal clothing of Josaphat Kuntsevych, who was martyred in 1623, will become the object of veneration and blessing for Belarusian Greek Catholics.
