MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 19 Victoria Azarenka battled through Belgium's world number 74 Greet Minnen, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, to reach the Canadian Open third round, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face world number 53 Peyton Stearns of the United States. In the opener Victoria Azarenka saw off Russia’s world number 29 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
World No.3 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus eased through her opener, defeating No.42 Yuan Yue of China, 6-2, 6-2 in the second round. The win sets up a third-round match against UK's world number 33 Katie Boulter.
The winner of the tournament in Toronto, which is due to complete on 11 August, will earn 1,000 points and $523,400.
