MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – A bust of Francysk Skaryna, a Belarusian enlightener and humanist, was unveiled in Chisinau, Moldova on 18 April, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Culture Ministry.
“The figure of Francysk Skaryna is of exceptional importance for Belarus’ culture and history. This name is linked with traditions thanks to which we feel proud of our country, our nation and its glorious history,” Culture Minister Yuri Bondar said.
The monument to the Belarusian book printer has been designed by famous Belarusian sculpturer Gennady Loiko. The bust is embellished with an image of Skaryna’s coat of arms which he put in each of his books.
The bust has been carved in Belarus as part of a design contest organized by the Belarusian Culture Ministry. It has been located in Chisinau under a project of Moldova’s Education, Culture, and Research Ministry.
