MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) - Belarusian Anastasiya Shkurdai won a bronze medal in the Women's 200m Backstroke at the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Kazan, BelTA was told in the Belarusian Federation of sailing.
Anastasiya Shkurdai, one of the leaders of Belarus’ national team, stopped the clock at 2:11.84. Gold went to Italy’s Erika Francesca Gaetani (2:10.28). Honey Osrin from the UK clinched silver with 2:10.30.
In Kazan Belarusian Arseny Borzhakov renewed Belarus’ national junior record in the 50m butterfly twice (semifinal and final). As a result, the country’s new record is now 23.88. That result placed the Belarusian seventh in the final protocol in Kazan. The previous record was set by Pavel Sankovich in 2008.
The LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Kazan will finish on 7 July. Belarus team includes nine athletes. After the junior championships, Anastasiya Shkurdai will go to the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea on 12-28 July.
