BREST, 9 April (BelTA) – The youth forum of Brest’ sister cities is planned to be made an annual event, Chairman of the Brest City Hall Alexander Rogachuk said during a meeting with participants of the first international youth forum on 9 April, BelTA has learned.
The Brest Mayor noted that the cooperation with the sister cities has been increasingly vibrant on a bilateral basis and is based on a well-established pattern. Stable relations and contacts at a personal level have been established with many regions, including those whose delegations are attending the forum. "By bringing together our sister cities from different countries, we carry out a mission of humanizing youth relations. I hope that the forum will allow you to get to know each other better, and will help get rid of some of the stereotypes. I am confident that this forum will be made an annual event. We will try to fill it with new content and new initiatives,” Alexander Rogachuk said.
The first international youth forum of Brest sister cities is running in Brest from 8 to 12 April. It has been organized on the initiative of the Brest City Hall and the city committee of the BRSM Youth Union as part of the Year of Youth events and to celebrate Brest as Belarus’ Capital of Culture. Thirty people from five countries accepted the invitations to attend the forum. These are representatives of Russia, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and the Netherlands. In particular, young people will come from Russia’s Ryazan, Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Tagil, Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankovsk and Lutsk, Poland’s Biala Podlaska, Dutch Coevorden, the Union of Communities of the German Mittleres Schussental.
The guests will be introduced to the tourism opportunities and cultural heritage of Brest and the region. The participants will exchange experiences on social activities, discuss possibilities of implementing joint long-term international projects.
