MOSCOW, 19 April (BelTA) – Moscow hosted an event to celebrate Brest as the CIS Capital of Culture 2019 and to mark the city’s millennium anniversary. The event took place in the Business and Cultural Complex of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the embassy.
“Brest has a dramatic past and was the stage of some important developments of European history. Within a thousand years, the city has come a challenging path of struggle and victories. It was destroyed again and again but every time would rise from ashes to prosperity,” Head of the Business and Cultural Center Vasily Chernik said. As an example of the city’s world fame he mentioned the Brest Fortress, a symbol of courage and heroism.
Guests of the presentation visited the Seven Wonders of Brest exhibition organized by the Pushkin Central City Library of Brest. The program of the event also included performances by Brest art groups: Peuniki exemplary boy’s choir and Fantasia dance theater.
Attending the presentation were representatives of the Standing Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State, the CIS Executive Committee, Moscow and local Belarusian diaspora, art intellectuals.
