After the prayer near the shrine with the relics of St. John of Korma in St. John of Korma convent, Bishop of Gomel and Zhlobin Stefan and Chairperson of the Dobrush District Executive Committee OIga Mokhoreva handed over household equipment to 30 refugee families.
According to the information from the Belarusian Orthodox Church, refugees from the regions in southeastern Ukraine engulfed in the military conflict have difficulties with accommodation arrangement in Belarus. The refugees are mostly women, children, and elderly people who are in need of social support.
The Gomel diocese has provided monetary aid and handed over household equipment, hygiene products, and medications to refugees since August 2014. The church closely cooperates with the Red Cross, social protection agencies, and local authorities.
According to Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Pavel, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, humanitarian aid collected by the Belarusian Orthodox Church can be handed over to Ukrainian refugees. The collection of donations was organized in 2014 upon the blessing of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.
