VOLOZHIN DISTRICT, 21 September (BelTA) - Bike 4 SDGs in Volozhin District, a bike ride to celebrate the Sustainable Development Goals, gathered participants from 35 countries, UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha told media on 21 September, BelTA has learned.
“Representatives of 35 countries have gathered here today to have a bike ride and make a canoe trip,” said Sanaka Samarasinha. The goal of the event is to pay attention to the environment that should be preserved for the future generations.
Speaking about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals suggested at the UN summit in September 2015, Sanaka Samarasinha noted that issues such as environment, healthy lifestyle, equal rights and partnership are of special importance.
Partaking in the bike ride and the canoeing trip in the Naliboki Nature Reserve are over 500 people, including Justice Minister Oleg Slizhevsky, Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko, people with disabilities, professional athletes and sports amateurs, representatives of international, state, public organizations and business.
