MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – A set of measures to attract tourists to Minsk has been worked out, BelTA learned from Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets during the plenary session of the first national forum of young professionals on 10 February.
Ways to attract more tourists to Minsk were discussed during meetings of representatives of the city administration and representatives of the travel agencies that take care of foreign tourists in Belarus. “Several times we have arranged conferences with the travel agencies that specialize in the export of tourism services to ask what should be done to attract more foreigners to Minsk,” said the city mayor. In his words, if rooms are ordered locally, hotel prices in Minsk are comparable with those abroad. “It is premature to claim that Minsk is an expensive city for tourists,” said the Minsk Mayor.
Andrei Shorets said that he had set up an advisory board for the sake of dealing with tourism export problems promptly. Apart from that, cooperation with Russian travel agencies will be established for the sake of bringing in more tourists. Plans have been made to unite Minsk hotels to discourage them from predatory pricing practices. Instead hotels are supposed to invite groups of tourists as a single package. Plans have been made to more actively highlight opportunities available in the Upper City in Minsk. The development of healthcare tourism and historical tourism is another idea.
