MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) - The Berlin State Library received the facsimile edition The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna, BelTA learned from the National Library of Belarus.
The editions, each of which is an exact reproduction of the books printed by famous book printer Francysk Skaryna were presented to Director General of the Berlin State Library Barbara Schneider-Kempf by Director of the Belarusian National Library Roman Motulsky.
Restoration and preservation of the cultural heritage is among the priorities of the National Library of Belarus. A good example here was the joint publishing project of the National Library and BelVEB Bank to reconstruct Francysk Skaryna’s book heritage.
Close partnership (2013–2017) resulted in the facsimile edition The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna which has made a precious gift in the year when Belarus celebrated the 500th anniversary of national book printing. The unique multi-volume project reflects not only the history of printing. It is a precious part of Belarusian culture, a source of historical, philological and cultural research.
The event was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Germany Denis Sidorenko, the embassy’s counselor Aleksei Barbuk, and the head of the Eastern Europe section of the Berlin State Library Olaf Hamann.
