GOMEL, 25 February (BelTA) – BelTA’s photo exhibition “Belarus Remembers. 75 Moments of the War” opened in Gomel on 25 February, BelTA has learned.
The exhibition is hosted by the Gomel Regional Drama Theater. The exhibition celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and features 75 moments captured during the war. The exhibition includes the photos of the war correspondents and rare black and white photos from BelTA's archives featuring the moments of the liberation of regional cities, post-war reconstructions.
“We have chosen the unique rare footage from combat sites, photos about the partisan movement and reconstruction of the ruined cities. People and their destinies are in the center. For example, it is unknown whether the characters of the photo featuring the moment of an explosion stayed alive or not. Somebody may be impressed by the photo of girls clearing debris after the liberation of their city. It was important for us to show Belarus’ regions and people who fought for the Victory and helped to rebuild the country,” Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BelTA’s Visual Information Office Vladimir Ivanitsky commented on the exhibition.
According to Chairman of the Gomel Regional Department of the Belarusian Peace Fund Timofey Glushakov, when watching at these photos modern youth should draw the conclusions and make every effort to avoid such events in the future.
Vladimir Charnashtan, Chairman of the Council of the Gomel Oblast Organization “Belarusian Public Veterans’ Organization”, highly appreciated the exhibition. “The photos impress with their realism. The Great Victory theme should live not only on its 75th anniversary. Such projects make us remember the deeds of our grandfathers and great grandfathers. We need to preserve the photos, audio and video materials and veterans’ memories. Today when we meet with veterans we play the audio stories recorded earlier by the participants of the Great Patriotic War. To hear the voices of the veterans who passed away many years ago means a lot,” Vladimir Charnashtan said.
The exhibition “Belarus Remembers. 75 Moments of the War” will keep traveling across the regional centers. The exhibition is planned to be shown in Austria and Israel.
