MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – The national air carrier Belavia has no plans to reroute its flights to Egypt. The information is posted on the company’s Facebook page, BelTA has learned.
Belavia noted that European airlines have decided to adjust only those transit routes that go over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. These include flights from Europe to India, Thailand, and Singapore. The airlines, including Belavia, will operate the direct flights from Europe to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada and other Egypt’s cities that do not go over the Sinai Peninsula as usual, the Belarusian company said.
The national air carrier Belavia extended its condolences to families and friends of the victims of the Russian plane crash.
The Airbus A321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia, was flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to Saint Petersburg as it crashed about 100km south of the north Sinai town of El-Arish on 31 October. The aircraft was carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members. Egyptian officials said all passengers and crew died. Most of the passengers were Russians. There were also several Ukrainians and one Belarusian on board.
