Belarusian writers to give readings in Russian regions

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Meetings with Belarusian authors will take place in Russian regions, BelTA learned from Head of the Office of the Public Chamber of the Union State Alexander Olshevsky.

According to him, it is important to bring Belarusian writers not only to Moscow, but also to Russian regions. “Several readings are scheduled to take place in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary, Kazan and Vladivostok. The first of them will be held in August and September. Belarusian authors are often invited by government agencies, like the State Duma, the Federation Council, as well as by veterans and officers,” he added.

Belarusian authors started making media appearances on Russian TV channels. The Prosveshchenie (Enlightenment) channel has had Belarusian novelist Anatoly Andreyev on their program Higher School. “Works by Belarusian authors send positive messages. These works are relevant for today’s Russia like never before, as the country lacks an integral element and common national ideas. Therefore it is important to show that such ideas are conveyed by contemporary writers,” Alexander Olshevsky said.

He emphasized the importance of joint literary contests. Such contests are to be held on a regular basis. He praised the Union State journal Belaya Vezha that publishes works by authors of the two countries. In September the results of the contest Union State Civil Symbols will be announced. Over 70 projects were launched under the aegis of the Public Chamber of the Union State over the past year.
