MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – The online broadcasts organized by the Belarusian Wrestling Federation Belarus’ national events in freestyle, women's and Greco-Roman wrestling drew about 90,000 viewers, BelTA learned from the press service of the federation.
The first broadcast in August was watched not only by wrestling fans in Belarus and also abroad. More than 20,000 wrestling fans from 21 countries watched the Belarusian Youth Championships in Freestyle, Women's and Greco-Roman Wrestling.
This record was beaten on 4-5 November as the Belarusian Freestyle and Women's Wrestling Cup in Minsk drew the audience of 32,000 in 26 countries.
The Belarus Greco-Roman Wrestling Cup (13-14 November) drew even more viewers. The competitions were watched by 35,000 fans from 30 countries.
Wrestlers are currently gearing up for the Individual World Cup that is due to take place in Belgrade on 12-20 December. Preparations for the next season, including Olympic qualification tournaments, is also underway.
The Belarusian Greco-Roman wrestlers have secured one Olympic berth in the 87kg category. Another Olympic spot has been won in the women's wrestling competitions (the 57kg weight category). Both the athletes qualified for the Tokyo Olympics at the world championships in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan).
The 32nd Tokyo Olympics have been rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic and will take place on 23 July-8 August 2021.
