MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Belarusian Greco-Roman wrestler Kiryl Valeuski has won gold in the 71kg category at the U17 World Wrestling Championships, BelTA has learned.
The season’s main tournament is taking place in Amman, Jordan.
The Belarusian defeated Armenia’s Samvel Terteryan, 3-2, in the first round and proved stronger over Wu Jinhao of China, 8-0, in the quarterfinal. Kiryl Valeuski saw off Behruzbek Valiev of Uzbekistan, 7-4, in the semifinal and secured gold against Vladislav Byrlia of Russia, 7-1, in the final. Earlier this year, Kiryl Valeuski defended his champion title at the U17 European Wrestling Championships.
Kanstantsin Kasyan of Belarus lost in the 92kg repechage to Uzbekistan’s Fakhrikamol Komiljonov.
The women’s wrestling event is underway in the capital of Jordan. Competing for medals for Belarus are Elvira Bahirava (46kg), Kseniya Kostsenich (49kg), Maryia Khrushchova (53kg), Palina Brahinets (57kg), Varvara Aliseyenka (61kg), Anastasiya Komanava (65kg), Ulyana Lapanik (69kg).
