MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – Belarusian wrestler Pavel Pominchuk won the Hungarian Grand Prix in the under-80kg category. The competitions were held in Szombathely, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian won all three bouts. He defeated Hungary’s Norbert Ubrankovics and Zoltan Keri, and also Rajbek Bisultanov of Denmark.
Two Belarusian athletes claimed medals in the 85kg event. Alexander Kikinev and Javid Hamzatov both successfully came through the qualifying to meet each other in the semifinal. Javid Hamzatov went out victorious but lost in the final to 2012 Olympic medalist Damian Janikowski of Poland. Alexander Kikinev won his bronze-medal bout against Iran’s Chadorchi Abedinzadeh.
Four more athletes from Belarus took part in the Hungarian Grand Prix: Mikhail Semenov and Pavel Lyakh (both 66kg), Yevgeny Bochko and Valery Polensky (both 75kg). All of them were eliminated before the final.
Belarus placed 5th with 32 points in the overall standings. The hosts of the competitions topped the table with 108 points.
