MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Belarusian freestyle wrestler Ivan Yankovsky won gold in the 97kg category at an international tournament in Paris, BelTA has learned.
On his way to the podium the Belarusian athlete defeated Italy’s Simone Innattoni, Jordan Noble of France and Nathan Burak of the United States.
Belarus’ Nadezhda Shushko, 55kg, claimed silver in the final bout against Ramona Galambos of Hungary. In the same weight category Zalina Sidakova of Belarus lost the bronze medal bout to France’s Emily Dufour.
Bronze medals were also clinched by Belarus’ Dimchik Rinchinov (57kg), Roman Chitadze (86kg), Vitaly Pesnyak (125kg), Violetta Chirik (48kg), Vanessa Kolodinskaya (53kg), and Yulia Pisarenko (58kg).
The international wrestling tournament in the French capital was an important stage for the Belarusian national team to get ready for the FILA Wrestling European Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia on 2-7 May.
