Belarusian wreath laid at Spirit of Elbe plaque in Washington
MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – Charge d’Affaires of Belarus in the USA Pavel Shidlovsky laid a wreath at the Spirit of the Elbe plaque in the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, USA on behalf of Belarus on 25 April, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
Heads of the diplomatic missions of a number of CIS states, Great Patriotic War veterans, who live in the USA, mass media representatives attended the event.
The press service noted that the wreath-laying ceremony takes place every year to mark the anniversary of the historical meeting of the Soviet and American troops at the Elbe River on 25 April 1945.
Later on a solemn reception involving war veterans and heads of veteran organizations, who live in the Washington area, took place in the Embassy of Russia.
