MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – Belarus Darya Pochobut claimed silver in the 69kh category at the European Weightlifting Championships in Forde, Norway, BelTA has learned.
Darya Pochobut took an individual gold medal in her third attempt in the snatch (106kg). She then showed her best - 130kg - in the clean and jerk to clinch silver with the total of 236kg (106kg+130kg).
Gold went to Armenia’s Nazik Avdalyan with the total of 237kg (105kg+132kg). Bronze was collected by 17-year-old Rebekah Tiler of the UK (a total of 222kg – 99kh+123kg).
Darya Pochobut claimed her first silver medal at the European level. In 2015 the Belarusian celebrated a bronze medal in the 75kg category.
Two more Belarusians will make their appearance at the European Weightlifting Championships in Forde, Norway. Alexander Makarenko will compete in the 94kg category on 15 April. Mikhail Avdeyev will show up in the 105kg category on 16 April.
The final roster of the Belarusian national weightlifting team for the Rio 2016 will be announced after the Belarusian Weightlifting Championships which is due in Grodno on 24-28 May.
