MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – The war and history drama "Time to Return" was screened in the Russian House in Sofia, Bulgaria on 12 November to mark the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders, BelTA has learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Bulgaria.

In his speech, Charge d'Affairs of Belarus to Bulgaria Nikita Leshukov noted that the Great Patriotic War had a lasting and profound effect on the history of Belarus. The country lost every third resident in the war. Thousands of cities and villages were destroyed and burned. Civilian population was subjected to genocide. The Belarusian diplomat emphasized the importance of preserving the historical memory of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and their fight for freedom and peaceful future of the current generation.

President of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists Snezhana Todorova shared her impressions of her visit to Minsk in July of this year and participation in the solemn events to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus.

Attending the event were representatives of the diplomatic corps, Bulgarian public organizations and business communities, the Belarusian community and Bulgarian residents.

The new film "Time to Return" made by the national film studio Belarusfilm narrates the events of 1944, in particular, the preparations for Operation Bagration. The film focuses on a Belarusian partisan unit tasked with finding weaknesses in the enemy's defense lines.

The Autographs of Courage exhibition prepared by the National Library of Belarus features photographs and archive data dedicated, among other things, to the defense of the Brest Fortress, Operation Bagration, the Belarusian partisan movement and the tragedy of Khatyn.
