MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian virtual museum on the Chernobyl disaster will open on 26 April to mark the 30^th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Office of the Russian-Belarusian Information Center on the Impact of the Accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant under the Institute of Radiation.

The goal of the project dedicated to the 30^th anniversary of the accident is to preserve the memory about the Chernobyl catastrophe. The website of the museum is Chernobyl.bel.

The museum is divided into three virtual halls: the accident, the mitigation of consequences, and the revival. Visitors will have an opportunity to get familiar with a unique collection of documentary photographs. The museum will tell about various stages of the tragic event and a present-day look at the Chernobyl legacy of Belarus.

“Our website is a Belarusian viewpoint on the Chernobyl tragedy. A viewpoint of the country which suffered most from the worst man-made catastrophe in the history, the country that injected huge resources in mitigating the impact of the accident and the country that achieved a high level of the social and economic development of the affected territories 30 years later. It is a viewpoint of the country which is an expert in dealing with nuclear disasters, which experience is used by the international community,” noted the authors and developers of the project.

The project is developed by Belarusian Office of the Russian-Belarusian Information Center on the Impact of the Accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant under the Institute of Radiation on the instruction of the Chernobyl Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.
