MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) - Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka (World No.26) was off to a good start at the Adelaide International 1 in Adelaide, Australia, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian won the first-round match against Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina (39) on two tie-breaks 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-5). The match lasted 2 hours and 37 minutes. Azarenka will next take on China’s Zheng Qinwen (28). World’s No. 5 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will begin her campaign at the Adelaide International 1 against World No. 20 Liudmila Samsonova on Wednesday.
Another Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (30) lost a three-set match to Estonian Kaia Kanepi (32) 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the 1/16 finals.
The competition in Adelaide will end on 8 January.
