MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Belarusian tales, riddles and legends will be translated into Chinese, Alexander Lokotko, the Director of the Research Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature at Belarus' National Academy of Sciences, said during a press conference in Minsk on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

"The center implements many projects in cooperation with Russia, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, France, Germany and other countries. We work together with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. By mutual agreement, we decided to celebrate the Belarusian spiritual heritage and publish a multi-volume book series both in Belarusian and Chinese. A collection of such examples of folk wisdom as proverbs and sayings has already been published. Next in line are the collections of riddles, folk tales, child folklore, legends and fables and ballads. All in all, the series will include seven books. Starting from the second volume, the books will be translated not only into Chinese but also into English. Some of the cultural monuments will be translated into the East Slavic languages," Alexander Lokotko said.

Alexander Lokotko also spoke about the center's latest projects in art history. "The journal on art history, ethnology and folklore studies is of high importance for our science. Its next issue will come out in 2018. Work is underway on the unique edition Towns and Villages of Belarus’. A total of 16 books have been published. They contain historical notes on more than 24,000 places: farms, villages and communities, small towns and big cities. Work on The Essays on History and Culture of Belarus is nearing completion," he said.
