MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Belarusian swimmers won 29 medals and set one national record at the international short-course swimming competitions in Latvia, BelTA informs.
The team of ten athletes, including leaders Alexandra Gerasimenya and Yevgeny Tsurkin claimed 15 gold, eight silver and six bronze medals. Alexandra Gerasimenya graced the podium three times clinching gold medals in the 50m (24.28 seconds) and 100m (53.69) freestyle and the 50m (27.53) butterfly events. Yevgeny Tsurkin was victorious in the 50m (23.67) and 100m (51.91) butterfly, and the 100m (21.93) freestyle. Oksana Demidova clocked 1:01.22 to collect gold in the 100m butterfly event.
Nikita Tsmyga touched in first in the 200m backstroke clocking 1:56.08. In the 4x50m mixed relay the team of Anton Latkin, Yulia Khitraya, Yevgeny Tsurkin and Alexandra Gerasimenya set a new Belarus’ record – 1:32.75.
The best swimmers of Belarus will next take part in the Belarusian Short-Course Swimming Championship in Brest on 11-14 November.
The 2015 European Short Course Swimming Championships will take place in Netanya, Israel on 2-6 December.
