MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarusian students won two silver and two bronze medals at the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IphO) in Lisbon, BelTA learned from the press service of the Education Ministry of Belarus.
Silver medals were collected by BGU Lyceum graduate Evgeny Gankovich and student of Borisov Gymnasium No.1 Evgeny Dedkov. Bronze medals went to graduate of Gomel Lyceum No.1 Nikolai Zunikov and graduate of BGU Lyceum Vladislav Fedurko. The team was led by head of the BGU Department of General Physics, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Anatoly Slobodyanyuk and head of BGU Lyceum Department of Physics Leonid Markovich.
The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is an annual physics competition for high school students. Each national delegation is made up of at most five student competitors plus two leaders, selected on a national level. The students compete as individuals, and must sit for intensive theoretical and laboratory examinations. The theoretical examination lasts 5 hours and consists of three questions. The practical examination may consist of one laboratory examination of five hours, or two, which together take up the full five hours. Te 49th IphO in Portugal welcomed more than 400 participants from 90 countries.
