Belarusian State University, Dalian Polytechnic University to open institute of distance learning

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Belarusian State University and Dalian Polytechnic University plan to open an institute of distance learning. This project was discussed during a meeting between Rector of Belarusian State University Andrei Korol and China Vice President Wang Qishan, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.

During the meeting Andrei Korol talked about the plans to deepen and broaden the Belarusian-Chinese relations. The strategic goal is to make BSU a platform, a bridge of interaction with Chinese universities in Eastern Europe. Plans are in place to open an institute of distance learning in conjunction with Dalian Polytechnic University,” the press service informed. In addition, BSU intends to sign an additional financial agreement with the Dalian university. BSU and Dalian Polytechnic University established a joint institute which has been running for a year already.

Wang Qishan stressed that Belarus is one of the states which pays great importance to the development of the educational system. He noted the vision and correctness of this position for social and economic development of the country as a whole.

During the visit to the BSU Wang Qishan got familiar with its library, the oldest and largest in Belarus. Its virtual equivalent has been included in the top 100 libraries of the world. The Chinese guest visited an exhibition of books timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the great thinker Karl Marx which featured the original editions dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.

The high guest visited the museum of history where he got familiar with the history of the first Belarusian university, the world’s scientific discoveries of BSU scientists, and the participation of university professors in the development of the UN. In the museum of Earth science Wang Qishan was shown unique collections of minerals, rocks and paleontological exhibits. The Chinese vice president was also taken on a tour of the university's gallery dedicated to outstanding educators of Belarus and world-famous thinkers, including great Chinese philosopher Confucius.
