MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) - Belarusian pentathletes Anastasia Prokopenko and Ilya Polozkov finished third in the mixed relay at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian duo was in the ninth position before the final combined event of pistol shooting and a 3200m cross-country run. A great performance from Anastasia Prokopenko, who won the 2017 Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Belarus and claimed bronze at the 2017 World Modern Pentathlon Championships, helped the team reduce the gap. As a result, Ilya Polozkov surpassed Hungary’s Bence Demeter. The Belarusians scored a total of 1,421 points to place third. The tournament was won by the Russian duo of Alexander Lesun and Gulnaz Gubaydullina with a total of 1,426 points. Silver went to Kate French and Jamie Cooke of the UK (1,423 points).
The Belarusian athletes also claimed bronze at the Under 19 European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Portugal. Nikita Ivarovsky and Aleksei Khurs scored a total of 1,204 to finish third.
