MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has extended an official invitation to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus to take part in the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, BelTA learned from the NOC press service.
Belarusian athletes traditionally rank high in winter Olympic sports. At the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi and PyeongChang 2018, Belarusian athletes won nine medals, including seven golds.
The Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 will be held in Beijing on 4-20 February 2022. Athletes will compete in 109 events across seven sports. Such events as men’s and women’s freestyle skiing big air, mixed team event in short track mixed relay, and women’s monobob (one-person bobsleigh) will make their debut at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
All in all, the competitions of the upcoming Olympic Games will take place at 25 venues located in three different clusters: in Beijing (figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, short track), in Zhangjiakou (skiing events, biathlon, and snowboard), and in Yanqing (alpine skiing and the sliding events). The mascot of the Olympic Games will be a giant panda named Bing Dwen Dwen.
