MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – Belarusian cinema products are being promoted to Argentina. The information was released by Belarusian Culture Minister Boris Svetlov during the meeting held on occasion of World Day of Culture, BelTA has learned.
According to the official, work is in progress to promote Belarusian cinema products to various markets. The relevant negotiations are in progress with Ukraine, Russia, China, and Argentina. The Argentinian market is interesting for Belarus because the country has opted to reduce the number of American movies screened in movie theaters and is therefore on the lookout for alternative products. Thus, Belarusians will be able to enter a new sales market and will be able to work on joint projects, said the Culture Minister.
Boris Svetlov also noted that the national cinema studio Belarusfilm could use investments. In the past it received considerable sums from Russia when Belarusian and Russian moviemakers worked on joint projects. Russian moviemakers also used Belarusian movie infrastructure for their own projects. At present Russian partners are in a difficult financial situation. The fact has affected the volume of funding available for movie projects. This is why Belarusian movie infrastructure is underutilized by Russian partners. If the state of affairs of Russian partners improves, Belarusian moviemakers will get their share, too, said Boris Svetlov.
