MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Promotion of Belarusian language and patriotic education will be in the spotlight during the celebrations of Belarus’ Year of Culture in Minsk, Sergei Medvedev, the head of the department for cultural establishments and cultural awareness raising of the main division for ideology, culture, and youth affairs at the Minsk City Hall, said at a press conference on 27 January, BelTA has learned.
A number of new projects and landmark events will be held in Minsk to mark the Year of Culture. Promotion of Belarusian language and patriotic education will be in the spotlight in 2016. For instance, the events calendar includes Belarusian Language Week and fashion festival Ethnostyle. Plans have also been made to hold a series of events to mark the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
Sergei Medvedev noted that Trostenets Memorial will host important cultural events in June 2016.
The 2016 calendar includes events aimed at supporting and promoting Belarus’ spiritual and cultural traditions. These include the campaign Night of Museums, the national contest of libraries, the national festival and fair Vyasnovy Buket, the Belarusian Written Language Day, and the Minsk folk art festival Suzorye.
