MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Consul General in Daugavpils Vladimir Klimov met with Marina Isupova, the head of the education department at the Daugavpils City Council, to discuss the possibility of setting up a Belarusian-language class at a secondary school in Daugavpils, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was held on 4 February. The parties discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Belarusian and Latvian regional education departments. Vladimir Klimov and Marina Isupova agreed that it is necessary to establish contacts between specialized schools and provide assistance to the Sunday school Vyasyolka in Daugavpils.
“The parties noted that despite the high level of cooperation between Belarusian and Latvian educational institutions, the Daugavpils education authorities have no official partner relations with colleagues from Belarusian local self-government bodies. In this light, Vladimir Klimov expressed readiness to assist the education department of the Daugavpils City Council with the signing of a cooperation agreement with the education department of the Belarusian city of Vitebsk which is a sister city of Daugavpils,” the ministry said.
It was stressed that exchange of experience between teachers and students and direct contacts will contribute to children’s comprehensive development.
