Belarusian folk traditions on display in Geneva

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ folk traditions and intangible heritage are displayed at the United Nations Office in Geneva, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Institute of Culture.

The Belarusian Spring Festival has become a cultural event featuring rich folk traditions and intangible heritage of Belarus in Geneva. Visitors could see an information and photo exhibition, watch a performance of the Vetakh band featuring spring folk rites, songs and dances with the elements of traditions to welcome birds.

The event was attended by Yuri Ambrazevich, Belarus’ permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Salman Bal, chief of political affairs and partnerships at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Abdulaziz Almuzaini, director of the UNESCO Geneva Liaison Office.

Addressing the guests, Yuri Ambrazevich pointed out a special role of cultural relation in the enhancement of international cooperation. An opinion was expressed that the similarity of folk traditions in various parts of the world testifies to bigger closeness of people and countries than can be imagined.

The director general of the UN Office was given nesting boxes for tits which will be placed on trees in the historical park of the United Nations Office in Geneva.

The event was organized by Belarus’ Permanent Mission in Geneva in cooperation with the Institute of Culture of Belarus under the aegis of the UN program of cultural activities with the assistance of the UNESCO Geneva Liaison Office.
