KRASNOYARSK, 1 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian flag was raised in an official ceremony in the Athletes Village of the 29th Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Russia on 1 March, BelTA has learned.
The head of the Belarusian sport delegation, Director of the Belarusian center of students’ physical education and sport Vitaly Strigelsky emphasized the importance of this event. “Today Belarus has been welcomed as a participant of the Universiade: a students' anthem was played, the Belarusian flag raised. Today our athletes will have their first official practice sessions,” he said.
The Belarusian delegation includes athletes who will compete in biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski orienteering and freestyle skiing.
Platinum Arena will host the opening ceremony on 2 March.
All in all, the Universiade which is to run from 2 to 12 March will have 76 medal events in 11 sports: biathlon, Alpine skiing, curling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski orienteering, figure skating, freestyle, ice hockey, bandy and short track speed skating. Competing in the sport forum will be about 3,000 athletes from more than 50 countries.
