MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – Two Belarusian films have won the US international film festival WorldFest-Houston, BelTA learned from Yuri Igrusha, the head of marketing, sales, and advertising at Belarus’ national film studio Belarusfilm.
Feature film “Vera's Sweet Farewell” by Alexandra Butor won a Gold Remi in the nomination Romantic feature films.
The documentary “The Songs of Old Europe - Ancient Belarusian Folk Songs” by Volya Dzemka, Belarus’ native and US resident, was awarded a Platinum Remi in the Ethnic/Cultural category.
The anniversary 50th edition of the Houston festival (Texas) was held on 21-30 April. Partaking in the event were over 800 film directors, producers and film professionals. The competitive program featured 194 films from 43 countries.
WorldFest-Houston
is an independent film festival. It became the third competitive film festival in North America, following San Francisco and New York. The Houston festival has ten major categories and over 200 sub-categories, unlike Cannes, Sundance and Toronto, which have 2 competitions for shorts and features only. The festival presents a lot of awards.WorldFest-Houston discovered such prominent directors as Spielberg, Lucas, Ang Lee, The Coen Brothers, Coppola and David Lynch.
