MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – The Civil Protection University of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry has designed an experimental model of a simulator based on a virtual reality technology, the ministry’s press service told BelTA.
The simulator is designed to imitate effects of physical actions in conditions of a virtual reality. It is a joint project of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, the Civil Protection University, and the United Nations Development Program office in Belarus.
The simulator is based on the Teslasuit system and virtual reality solutions, which the UNDP office has donated to the university.
Specialists of the Civil Protection University developed the software that processes tactile feedback, sound effects, virtual content in educational locations and the environment, and developed a user interface for operators (professors) to control the experimental simulator model. Algorithms were developed to track and evaluate actions of the students. Personal statistics will be collected and stored in a database.
The simulator will allow students to enter a virtual environment and interact with it naturally. They will get tactile feedback, for instance, imitations of touches, blows, electric shock or heat impact. During a training session students will experience all the hardships without the danger of physical injuries.
The simulator will allow students to polish practical skills of how to act in emergencies, which are extremely difficult to simulate with conventional means.
