PYEONGCHANG, 16 February (BelTA) – Marina Zuyeva of Belarus took 7th place in the ladies' 5,000m speed skating event at PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian athlete finished in 7:04:41 in the longest Olympic speed skating distance for women. The Olympic debutant has certainly made some progress in Pyeongchang: she was 11th in the 3,000m speed skating and was disqualified after the 1,500m event.
Today Marina Zuyeva finished 14:18 behind the leader, Esmee Visser (Netherlands), who clocked 6:50:23.
Defending champion Martina Sablikova of Czechia claimed silver (1:62 behind). Third place went to Russia’s Natalia Voronina (3:75 behind).
Marina Zuyeva also plans to take part in the mass start event at PyeongChang 2018. Her teammate Tatyana Mikhailova is also preparing for this competition. The Belarusian male speed skaters are Vitaly Mikhailov and Ignat Golovatyuk.
