MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Festivities dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Zhirovichi Monastery have been postponed to a later date, BelTA learned from the official website of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
“In 2020 the Belarusian Orthodox Church marks landmark events that shaped the history of Orthodoxy on the Belarusian land. These are the 550th anniversary of the appearance of the Icon of the Mother of God, the 500th anniversary of its reappearance and the 500th anniversary of the founding of the stavropegic Holy Assumption Zhirovichi Monastery. The monastery in the agro-town of Zhirovichi was to become the main venue of the celebrations on 19 and 20 May. Taking into consideration the epidemiological situation, a decision was taken to postpone the anniversary celebrations to a later date,” the Belarusian Orthodox Church announced.
The new dates will be announced later.
