MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – Belarus has been granted a special award for hosting Global Money Week events in 2016, representatives of the Information and Public Relations Office of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus told BelTA.
The award was bestowed by Child & Youth Financial International upon Belarus for significant accomplishments in hosting Global Money Week 2016. Winners of the Global Inclusion Awards 2016 were named during the award ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden on 28 November.
Global Money Week 2016 took place in Belarus on 14-20 March to raise the financial awareness of children and young Belarusians. The campaign was focused on the forthcoming redenomination of the Belarusian ruble. The country’s central bank prepared a special presentation and information materials. Financial literacy lessons were arranged in 3,000 education institutions all over the country with assistance of the Education Ministry. Specialists of the central bank and commercial banks, financial market associations and other financial organizations acted as teachers and professors during these lessons. All kinds of events were arranged in the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange, in the I.O. Akhremchik art college, in the Minsk State Oblast Lyceum, and in various other education institutions in regions of the country.
Child & Youth Financial International was established in Netherlands in 2011 to initiate and coordinate the global approach to raising the financial awareness of children and youth.
Belarus was one of the first few Eastern Europe countries to join the Global Money Week initiative. Later on the initiative became the world’s largest campaign aimed at improving children’s knowledge about finance. According to estimates of Child & Youth Financial International, in 2016 Global Money Week events took place in 132 countries across the globe. Nearly 14,000 various organizations took part in the events. The organizations arranged over 33,000 events for about 7 million children and youth. Global Money Week 2017 is scheduled for 27 March – 2 April.
