MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – The 47th edition of the World Sambo Championships completed in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on 13 November, BelTA has learned.
On the final day the Belarusian national team competing under the flag of the International Sambo Federation clinched two more medals. Silver medals were collected by Sviatlana Tsimashenka (women, under 80kg) and Yauheni Aleksiyevich (combat sambo, under 88kg). Earlier, medals for Belarus were claimed by Anfisa Karayeva (women, under 50kg, silver), Yana Beganskaya (women, under 59kg, bronze), Anzhela Zhylinskaya (women, under 78kg, bronze), Yauheni Mikhno (combat sambo, under 64kg, bronze), Raman Damieyv (combat sambo, under 98kg, bronze). Alyona Kupava (under 54kg) claimed the champion title. Belarus placed third (1-3-4) in the medal table.
The competition featured three disciplines: women’s sambo, men’s sambo and combat sambo. In total, the athletes competed in 21 medals events - seven in each discipline. Taking part in the event were athletes from 50 countries. Earlier this year the Belarusian team participated in the European Sambo Championships in Serbia with neutral status and won ten medals.
