MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian U17 national football team has won the Development Cup for the third time. The tournament completed at the Minsk Football Center on 28 January, BelTA has learned.
In the final of the 15th edition of the tournament Mikhail Markhel’s men edged Israel 1-0. The winner was scored by Makar Litskevich in the 60th minute of the game. His teammate Ruslan Lisakovich was named the best player of the Development Cup 2019. The awards were presented by Chairman of the Belarusian Football Federation Sergei Rumas.
Last autumn, the Belarusian team progressed to the elite qualifying round for the 2019 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. In March, Belarusians will face the teams from Germany, Iceland and Slovenia in a bid to reach the final stage of the continental championship.
In the bronze medal game of the Development Cup 2019 Slovakia blanked Georgia 2-0.
Belarus won the tournament twice (2006, 2007). Russia was victorious five times (2008, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2017). Ukraine celebrated the victory four times (2009, 2012, 2016, 2018).
The tournament of young footballers in the Belarusian capital was held by the Belarusian Football Federation with the support of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Minsk City Hall.
