MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes won 14 (three gold, five silver and six bronze) medals on the first day of the 24th International Category A Sambo Tournament for the Prizes of the President of Belarus which is underway at the Minsk Sports Palace, BelTA has learned.
“The first day was a good one for Belarusian athletes. Minsk has welcomed strong athletes from different countries to compete at the tournament,” head coach of the Belarusian national sambo team Dmitry Bazylev said.
Competing in Minsk are representatives of 24 countries. Belarus has fielded about 60 athletes.
The competitions are organized by the International Sambo Federation (FIAS), the Sports and Tourism Ministry, the President's Sports Club, the Minsk City Hall, the National Olympic Committee, and the Belarusian Sambo Federation.
Entry is free.
The tournament will wrap up on 21 February.
In 2019, Belarusian sambo wrestlers won 23 (seven gold, eight silver and eight bronze) medals at the International Category A Sambo Tournament in Minsk.
