MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – About 6 million foreign tourists visited Belarus last year, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus Timofei Zhigarev at a press conference.
Timofei Zhigarev said: “We survey tourism in Belarus every year. In 2023 our country welcomed about 6 million foreign guests from 150 countries, 12% up from 2022. The average bill makes up about $500.”
Belarus has proper infrastructure for welcoming foreign guests. “They can enjoy comfortable accommodation, taste national cuisine. They can safely and fast get to any corner of the country. This is why the number of visitors rises,” the official added. Belarus even welcomes visitors from such distant countries as Laos and Chile. Certainly, Belarus welcomes traditional tourists from neighboring countries but tourists from China, Germany, Türkiye, Israel, Serbia, Georgia, Estonia, Italy, and Hungary are also active. “Our tourism industry operates very decently and I think we will increase the potential and attract more people for the sake of introducing them to our country, our history, and places of interest,” Timofei Zhigarev concluded.
