Belarus victorious in sniper relay at Army Games 2019
BREST, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarus won the Sniper Frontier relay competition at the Army Games 2019, the head of the jury, Deputy Force Commander of Special Operations of the Armed Forces of Belarus Vladimir Belyi told the media, BelTA has learned.
The Brest training ground hosted the Sniper Frontier relay finals on 13 August. The sniper relay saw a fierce competition for points and seconds. “Our guys made us happy. The team crossed the finish line carrying the Belarusian flag. Russia was second, Kazakhstan third. China came in fourth,” Vladimir Belyi informed.
The Sniper Frontier relay finals featured eight teams that were divided into two groups. Participants were to overcome the distance of about 1km. The route combined running a course of obstacles such as a wall, a ditch, a fence, a wire fence and firing bouts, with a penalty loop awarded for every miss. The competition was watched by Belarus Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov and Brest Oblast Governor Anatoly Lis.
The first group included teams from Azerbaijan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The victory was celebrated by Uzbek snipers. “All countries did their best but the course was difficult and mistakes were made. It was difficult to recover breath after running and perform well in shooting. The last meters were particularly difficult. But we coped and got ahead of others,” Sgt. Omonzhon Ochilov said.
The second group featured the leaders: Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and China. The Belarusian snipers took the lead from the start and showed excellent shooting skills. The guys did not hide the emotions at the finish line. “We are one whole. We got together to win and to represent the country well. We are very happy, emotions are running high. We gave it all. The most difficult about the race was the struggle with yourself: we overcame ourselves and won,” Denis Orlov, Sergei Lazarev, Artem Zhingel and Yevgeny Kulesh shared their emotions. Assessing the competition in general, the Belarusian participants praised their opponents and the level of their training. “The competition was top level. Everybody showed pretty good skill. There was an intrigue throughout the race but eventually the strongest prevailed,” they said.
The Sniper Frontier featured teams from 21 countries. It included individual and doubles competitions and the relay race. Now the secretariat is scrupulously counting every point to determine the place of the teams in the rankings,” Vladimir Belyi said.
Brest is also hosting the Polar Star competition at the Army Games 2019 among military special forces.
