MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – Belarusian artist Valentina Shoba and sculptor Sergei Portenkov have been awarded the prestigious Prix Taylor (Taylor Prize), BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in France.
The winners were chosen on 25 November during the art fair Art en Capital which is currently underway at the exhibition center Grand Palais in Paris. Valentina Shoba and Sergei Portenkov are the first Belarusians to be given the prize.
Works by artist Valentina Shoba from Grodno and sculptor Sergei Portenkov from Gomel are on display at the Belarusian pavilion at the Grand Palais. The pavilion has been set up on the initiative of the Belarusian Embassy in France with an active participation of the National Art Museum of Belarus, the Belarusian Cultural Center in France, OAO Priorbank, and opera singer Arkady Volodos who was born in Belarus and has been living in Paris for many years.
The Prix Taylor is awarded each year to works in two art forms, painting and sculpture. The decision on the prize is taken by a commission of twelve judges chosen through a vote by members of the Baron Taylor Association. The association was founded on 7 December 1844 to support artists and promote art in all its manifestations.
