MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – Belarus will field an approximately 150-strong delegation at the 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Alexander Gagiev, the head of the Belarusian Olympic delegation - First Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism of Belarus, told reporters, BelTA has learned.
"We hope that Belarus will medal, like at the previous games, in such sports as kayaking and canoeing, weightlifting. We are doing well in trampoline, and naturally, in rhythmic gymnastics. We have all the hopes for these sports at the Olympics,” Alexander Gagiev noted.
"As of today we are down six licenses, if not consider football, when compared to the previous Olympics. We are moving in the same mode as we did before the Olympics 2012,” Alexander Gagiev said.
He also noted that all the members of the delegation will be vaccinated against the diseases before traveling to Brazil. "For example, we are doing the vaccination against yellow fever," he said.
The 31st Summer Olympic Games will be held in Brazil from 5 to 21 August. The main venue will be in Rio de Janeiro. Competitions will also take place in Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte and Salvador. The games will include more than 300 medal events. Over 200 countries are expected to participate in the games.
