MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) – Belarus will join new cross-border tourist routes, Director of the Tourism Department of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry Vadim Karmazin told media, BelTA has learned.
Belarus’ participation in the development of new cross-border routes was discussed between representatives of the Belarusian ministry and Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai on 8 April. The UNWTO head supported the idea of restoring From the Varangians to the Greeks route and Belarus’ participation in it.
Every year Mr Taleb Rifai visits about 40 states and has traveled almost all over the globe so far. He is on his first visit to Belarus. The program of his visit includes the tour of Minsk Arena and Dudutki, meetings in the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 9-10 April.
Belarus joined the World Tourism Organization in 2005. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.
