Belarus to join Earth Hour on 24 March

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) - Belarus will join the Earth Hour campaign on 24 March, BelTA learned from the company Zelenaya Set.

Earth Hour is meant to raise public awareness of global environmental problems. This year, the organizers offer to pay attention to the way nature is connected with people and climate change and the way climate change affects nature.

The event will be held on 24 March to switch off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 20:30 to 21:30, to make a step towards the careful management of natural resources. Lights will be turned off on Belarus’ National Library, Mir Castle, Brest Fortress Memorial, Grodno Oblast Drama Theater, Minsk Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War, Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences, State Philharmonic, TSUM Department Store, Green supermarkets, and Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater. The campaign will be held in every region of the country.

More than 25 million people and 3,100 landmarks from 187 countries celebrated Earth Hour in 2017. Last year, the campaign was held in 11 Belarusian cities and villages. The lighting was off for one hour on central buildings, Mir Castle and Nesvizh Castle. Earth Hour is organized in Belarus by Zelenaya Set company.
