MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – Belarus plans to join one of the world's largest grassroots movements for the environment Earth Hour on 26 March 2022, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
“The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection invites everyone interested to join for Earth Hour 2022: let's switch off our lights for an hour at 20.30 on 26 March,” the press service said.
The main goal is raise awareness of climate change, promote a responsible attitude towards nature and resources of the planet.
“Saving energy is not the main goal of the campaign. It is the unity of people in the face of environmental problems, the willingness of everyone to contribute to the welfare of the planet which matters most,” the press service said.
Belarus is set to join the environmental campaign for the 13th time under the auspices of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The event was first held in Sydney, Australia, on 31 March 2007. A year later 35 countries and more than 400 cities supported the campaign. Belarus joined the event in 2009.
