Belarus to host international beekeepers’ congress in 2020

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Belarus will host the International Congress of the Federation of Beekeeping Organizations in 2020. Belarus’ Vice Prime Minister Vladimir Dvornik supported the initiative as he received citizens to consider their appeals and petitions, BelTA has learned.

Vladislav Zavalnyuk, a priest at Saints Simon and Helena's Church (the Red Church) in Minsk brought forward a proposal to arrange the International Congress of the Federation of Beekeeping Organizations in Minsk in September 2020. According to him, the congress may draw from 3,000 to 5,000 participants.

Vladimir Dvornik supported the proposal and agreed that hosting such an event will help enhance Belarus’ image. He asked about sources of financing of the event as the law imposes limits on state funding. Vladislav Zavalnyuk assured Vladimir Dvornik that the event will get the necessary financing. Vladimir Dvornik tasked Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo with setting up an organizing committee of the international congress. “We should help organize the congress in order to enhance the image of our country and involve the services sector. Belarus is promoting tourism, and this event will help boost the services sector,” he said.

One of the petitioners asked Vladimir Dvornik whether she can privatize a part of a land plot in Minsk District. This is a long-standing land dispute and the petitioner was not happy with the previous answers to her appeals.

Vladimir Dvornik considered the issue in detail and ordered to set up a group involving representatives of government agencies, in particular, the State Property Committee, and MPs. The group will visit the land plot again, hear the arguments of the two sides, give a comprehensive assessment of the situation, and issue a decision. If the sides disagree with the decision, they should take the matter to court.

“We should take all the necessary steps to give petitioners a satisfactory answer. I believe that not only the executive authorities but also the legislative authorities, MPs, should get involved. We should engage all the necessary government agencies to settle such long-standing disputes,” Vladimir Dvornik noted.
