MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) - The Belarusian delegation headed by Deputy communication and Informatization Minister Natalia Gordeyenko will participate in the Extraordinary Congress of the Universal Postal Union which will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 3-7 September, BelTA learned from the ministry.
The Extraordinary Congress convened by the Government of Ethiopia together with the Universal Postal Union will be the second one in the 144-year history of the UPU. Attending the congress will be nearly 1,000 people from 192 countries. The delegates are set to discuss reform of the Universal Postal Union and the plans to strengthen the sustainability of the postal sector.
Belarus will make proposals to adjust the provision of postal services to the changes in the mail sector and changing needs of clients.
In accordance with the Council of Ministers’ Resolution No. 877 dated 21 November 2017 on cooperation with international organizations and interstate unions, the Communication and Informatization Ministry has been apointed as the government body responsible for cooperation with the Universal Postal Union.
